Clan Evolution... nobody had heard of them until they were invited to play in the Eurocup. Even then most gamers thought they would end up last in their poule or something.
The European gamers were stunned when they realised the clan they thought would end up last has made it into the playoffs, ready to face Danish topclan After Dark for a place in the Lan finals.
Once again nobody believed they could do it, get to the lan finals, since After Dark beat them earlier in the league with quite convincing numbers.
Imagine our surprise when they did it again by beating After Dark 3 maps to 2 and ensured a spot in the lan finals.
Now we know what they're capable of, but what do we REALLY know about them? Exactly, nothing. That's about to change:
Let's start by introducing yourselves, shall we? Who are clan evol?
We're a Swedish Q3 TDM clan. Currently the clan consists of nine members, of which seven are active: Birra, Boostin, Fetsate, React, Snorre, Spy and Yagi. The two inactive members are QuaKx (who is busy with his work and wife) and J_CroC who felt out of shape and decided to play with another clan (oDe) for awhile to get more playtime. We all live in different parts of Sweden and are between 20 and 30 years old.
Who founded clan evolution, and when?
On the 10th of March 2000 a few members from oDe and JAS merged into evoLution. The reason for the merger was mainly that a few of the members of each clan were more serious about Q3DM than the others and wanted to be part of an active clan and see how far they could get in Q3. oDe was one of Sweden's best Q2DM clans during 1999 while JAS was a pretty unknown Q2CTF clan. When Q2DM totally died in the fall of 1999, [oDe]ReaCt started playing Q2CTF with JAS and this was sort of the link between the two clans. The original members were from oDe: ReaCt, Yagi, QuaKx and J_Croc, from JAS came Birra, Boostin, Fetsate and Snorre. Spy joined up in August.
What did you expect of the Eurocup? Did you think you were gonna make it to the lan finals?
EC2 was sort of our main goal when we started out back last spring. When we followed the first Eurocup and played scrimmages with some of the clans participating then, we really felt that we should give it a shot. Making the LAN-finals was our goal from the start. We are of course very happy to have made it this far, since the competition was very tough and the entire tourney so far has been played on the internet, anyone who wants to qualify needs a bit of luck to pass the qualifying rounds.
how did you feel after winning over clan after dark, the clan that beat you earlier, 3 maps to 2?
After Dark upset a lot of people during the regular season, beating e9, us and Vikings (who are traditionally Denmark's top clan). They played some great games during the regular season but we still felt that we really had a good chance to beat them when we faced them in the rematch. We think we kind of underestimated them in the first match too, especially after beating them on their best map (dm6tmp). When they got the upper hand on the other maps we got totally lost and they showed us no mercy :) In the rematch we were a little better prepared for this and with a little luck we pulled it home... With 5 really close maps and an over-crowded #evolution congratulating us afterwards, we couldn't be anything but happy :)
How much do you guys practice for the upcoming lan finals?
Well it's Christmas break for us right now so nothing at all really. We'll start again after New Year's though. We've always practiced quite a lot and plan on doing so now too, although a few of us having exams will make it a little difficult.
any thoughts on who might win the lan finals?
Every team that has made it this far is damn good... by just looking at the teams that lost in the final round one can be pretty sure that there will be no easy games for anyone. Looking at it objectively, 4z and Allstars are the favourites, OCR being close behind, while we and 4K are the underdogs. We are not going there to place 4th or 5th though, we are going there to win and that probably goes for all the clans who are participating.
what are the future plans for evol? sponsorship? international events?
Regardless of how we perform at the EC2-finals, evoLution will continue to play. If we perform well, it will hopefully open up some opportunities to go to big events. The CPL World Championships in August of 2001 is of course tempting, but at the moment that is a bit far away to be considered a goal. Hopefully CPL Europe will arrange some team tournaments this spring. If so, expect to see us there! Besides this, there will hopefully be the EC3-finals to aim for!
